Making your own folding table can be a fun and rewarding DIY project. Here are the steps to follow:
Materials you'll need:
- A sheet of plywood (3/4-inch thick) for the tabletop
- Four wooden legs (1 1/2-inch thick)
- Hinges
- Screws
- Sandpaper
- Stain or paint
- Varnish or polyurethane (optional)
Tools you'll need:
- Circular saw or table saw
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- Sandpaper (150-grit and 220-grit)
- Paintbrush or roller
Step 1: Cut the plywood to the desired size for your tabletop. Use a circular saw or table saw to make the cuts. Sand the edges with 150-grit sandpaper.
Step 2: Attach the legs to the underside of the tabletop. Use the drill to make pilot holes in the plywood, then screw the legs in place. Make sure the legs are evenly spaced and level.
Step 3: Attach the hinges to the underside of the tabletop and to the legs. Use screws to secure the hinges in place. Test the hinges to make sure they open and close smoothly.
Step 4: Sand the tabletop and legs with 220-grit sandpaper. Remove any dust with a tack cloth.
Step 5: Stain or paint the tabletop and legs, if desired. Allow the finish to dry completely.
Step 6: Apply a coat of varnish or polyurethane to protect the tabletop and legs, if desired. Allow the finish to dry completely.
Your folding table is now complete and ready to use!
